Huge thanks to the exceptionally talented Thea Gilmore for her incredibly moving song for Ellen, She Speaks In Colours, written about Ellen and our life together and the moment when we lost her in 2019.
It has been simply wonderful to be part of the 21st Century Folk project launched by Radio 2 back in February 2022, which chose five people in the North East to feature and have a song written for them by a talented folk artist.
We’ve had an amazing time, met fabulous folk and honoured Ellen in the best possible way. We know she would be humbled by all the attention. She loved music and would be strumming along with Thea on her favourite blue guitar.
When you lose a child, people often send you cards that say, There are no words… well, Thea found the words, each one carefully chosen and full of thought & meaning. It’s a powerful and poignant song. It is sorrow and joy wrapped up together. It’s the soundtrack to our grief and the hope at the end of the rainbow. It is the song of a lifetime. It just gets better every time you hear it…have your hankies at the ready!
We hope you’ll support Thea by streaming or buying She Speaks In Colours. I encourage you to listen to her vast array of songs and go to a live performance. Please follow her for news and future tour dates: Thea’s website | on facebook | on twitter
You can see below the links to the song, when it was first performed for our family and the TV and Radio appearances Thea and I have done together this week as well as my interview with the lovely Anna Foster on BBC Radio Newcastle. We hope you enjoy hearing about our journey and listening to the beautiful song, She Speaks in Colours.
